  'All heal'
Valerian tea is one of the best cures for sleeplessness.
 
Annual/biennial/Perennial Perennial
Appearance Shiny bright green leaves with pink flowers.
Height 3ft/1m
Growing Position Full sun or semi-shade.

Fertiliser Light organic.
Propagation & soil You can either start off with a bought plant or with seeds.The plant will grow in almost any type of conditions as long as it is a sunny spot in either damp or light soil. The seeds germinate in the light so do not cover with soil, make sure you sow plenty and mark the spot as only 50% will germinate.
General Information  
Spring Sow seed in April. Sow where they are to remain.
Summer Thin the seedlings if necessary.
Autumn Lift and divide mature plants and keep some roots for drying.
Winter Plant dies down.
Use Dried roots only.
Aromatic, Medicinal or Culinary Medicinal.
Areas of help Sleeplessness, epilepsy, constipation, swollen joints and rashes. Menstrual pains, pain in the muscles and general pain.
Storage Use dried.
Specific Use
  • It does not taste very good so add some honey to your tea.

Standard Tea:
Do not boil the water. The tea can be made without heating the water, use one teaspoon of broken root to one cup of water and leave for 12 hours to soak. If it is being used to help you sleep drink one hour before sleeping.
