  Used by the Crusaders.
One of the most popular herbs taken in tablet form but its use must be monitored by a doctor as it has an adverse effect on some pharmaceutical medications. If taken in large quantities it can also cause sun sensitivity
 
Annual/biennial/Perennial Annual.
Appearance Bright yellow flowers with masses of stamens with rather frail and small leaves.
Height 2ft/60cms
Growing Position Semi-shade.
Fertiliser Leaf mould.
Propagation and soil Can be started from seed. Well drained, alkaline soil.
Spring As with many woodland plants mimicking the countryside will help them to grow well..

Use Leaves and flowers.

Areas of help Externally for ulcers. Internally for earache, toothache, rheumatism, arthritis and depression. Inhibits viral infections like herpes and HIV.
Storage Fresh or dried.
Specific Use
  • Add flowers to chamomile, melted fat and bees-wax for a soothing external lotion.
  • Add a few flowers to salads
