AREA PLANT ADVICE
FLOWERS PERENNIALS Divide up and discard any growth which is 3-4 years old, just keep the young growth.
  CHRISTMAS CACTUS Light watering
  POTTED PLANTS Discard any dead or dying plants and store terracotta pots inside or in sacking or bubble-wrap away from frosts.
  HYACINTHS Still time to plant some in pots.
  WALLFLOWERS Can be planted out now along with tulips, lilies and daffodils.
FRUIT BLACKBERRIES The canes that have borne fruit need to be pruned back.
GENERAL   Collect as many seeds as you can from the dead flower heads, put them in a packet in a dark dry place, name and date them ready for next year.
    Try not to walk on your lawn at this time of year as the mud will push to the surface especially if it is very wet.
    If you have any tender plants in the garden like Banana or palms take off the outer leaves wrap well in straw and sacking to protect them from frosts and snow.

    Protect any tender herbs with straw or sacking.
    Pots of herbs should be inside by now.
HOUSEPLANTS   Be careful not to overwater your plants and check that they are not standing in water as this will slowly kill them.

SEED SOWING    
SHRUBS   Conifers and hedging will take very well if planted out now.
VEGETABLES RUNNER BEANS Cut back to soil level but leave the roots in until next spring and then dig up.
  SPINACH You can still plant spinach seeds out now.
