Maiden A one-year old tree or shrub.

Micro-organisms Microscopic plant and animal organisms. Some are beneficial, those that rot down manure and orgainc matter but others cause disease, like mould.
Mist-unit Most tropical houseplants will have started out life in a vast greenhouse with fine mists of water sprayed on them at timed intervals.
Mixed border A border arranged with all sorts of different types of trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants and bulbs.
Module This is a tray with individual cells in which to grow your seedlings without the need to seperate or prick them out.
Mole plough Mostly used on clay soils to make a drainage tunnel.
Monocarpic A plant that dies after flowering and fruiting.
Monocotyledon A flowering plant with one seed leaf.
Monoecious A plant with male and female flowers.
Moraine Alpines would be happy living in this habitat as it is rock chippings.
Mosaic A sympton of a virus disease which makes the leaves patchy in appearance.
Mother plant The one from which you take your cuttings for propagation.
Mulch Placed on top of the soil to prevent weeds and to keep moisture from evaporating.
Multistemmed A tree usually with three main stems growing from the base. 
Mutant or mutation The plant differs genetically from its parent.
Mycelium  Fine thread-like strands of fungi.
