Appearance Tiny insignificant yellow flowers with cloak-like pleated leaves, hence the name.
Height 18ins/45cm
Growing Position Used to hilly positions in the sun with good water.
Fertiliser  
Propagation & soil Good drainage required but damp, sunny conditions are best.
Spring Sow seeds in Spring in a cold frame or greenhouse.If planting directly outside sow seeds in a sunny spot.
Summer Thin seedlings at the beginning of the summer to 10ins apart. This plant has a habit of spreading like mad so keep the flower heads to a minimum.
Autumn Cut off flowering stems.
Winter In some warmer areas your plant might stay green throughout the winter.
Use The whole plant above ground.

Areas of help Regulates menstruation, clears inflammation of the female organs, can help with fertility, heart tonic, fortify arteries, diabetes and obesity. Externally for acne and freckles.
Storage Use fresh or preserved candied.
Specific Use
  • Crush and press the leaves and use the juice for the skin.
  • Infusion for the bath and washing.
  • Tea to be drunk by women from their fortieth year to help with the menopause.
