  Fragrant Thai leaves.
Although not a native of England, it is now extensively used in curries and soups.

Appearance Large dark green leaves in two round sections.

Growing Position Indoors in a sunny window but like all houseplants beware of a south facing window as it can be damaging to the plant. Go to the Houseplant section for more advice.
Fertiliser Organic through the summer months.
Propagation & soil Rich light soil with good drainage. Try taking cuttings in the spring.
Spring Check your plant to make sure it does not need a larger pot, if it is OK just put some new soil (top dress) over the plant making sure you leave enough room for watering.
Summer From June to the end of August your plant could go outside and will probably enjoy the fresh air, it will be able to stand a drop in temperature at night to 10c but anything much colder than that bring it in. Feed all through the summer months.
Autumn Bring indoors.
Winter Water once a week.
Use The leaves and rind are edible. The juice of the fruit is not.

  • The leaves in curries and soups.
  • Finely shred the leaves into salads
  • The juice of the lime for bleaching and for head lice.
