Medicinal and flavoursome.
 
Annual/biennial/Perennial Evergreen
Appearance Grey-green needles rather than leaves, with yellow flowers.
Height 20-40ft/9-12m
Growing Position Plenty of space in a sunny place.
Fertiliser  
Propagation & soil Sow from seed (the seed must be exposed to frost to germinate)but always have a male and a female plant next to each other if you want the berries. The soil should be sandy and dry as they survive on hillsides and mountainous regions.
Spring Sow several seeds well spaced out or in pots, the male one will be more upright than the female.
Summer Thin out the seedlings.

Areas of help Diuretic, carmative, asthma, gout, obesity, anti-rhuematic and good for the circulation.
Storage Use the fruit dried.
Specific Use
  • Iron is less easily absorbed as are other minerals, occasional use only.
  • Use the berries for marinating game and fatty poultry
