AREA PLANT ADVICE
FLOWERS ROSES Finish your rose pruning early in April
LILIES Plant out your lily bulbs either in your borders or for a special display on the patio in pots
DAFFODILS Take the old dead flower heads off but leave the leaves for at least six weeks, as this gives the bulbs food for next year.
SNOWDROPS If your snowdrops are too prolific wait till after flowering, then lift, divide and replant giving them plenty of space to multiply again
HEATHERS Trim back old Heather flowers but be careful not to cut into old wood
IRIS Plant your Iris bulbs 10cm deep and about 15cm apart, keeping the pointed part upwards
BEGONIAS Plant tubers in pots in the greenhouse making sure the concave surface is facing upwards, then lightly cover with compost
SWEET PEAS If you have not already planted your peas in pots in the greenhouse, plant out directly now
GLADIOLI Plant out your Gladioli any time from now to June. Gladis like sharp grit so if your soil is heavy put some grit in the hole before planting your bulbs. Plant about 10cm deep and 10-15cm apart.
FRUITS PEACHES If you have peaches or nectarines in the greenhouse then use a soft brush to pollinate them
GOOSEBERRIES Frost damage can be prevented to your early flowers by covering with fleece or net
RHUBARB Cover your Rhubarb with a forcing jar or bucket now but do check to ensure the stalks are not getting too long
STRAWBERRIES Cover strawberries required for early fruits with cloches to encourage them to flower
