is facing upwards, then lightly cover with compost |

If you have not already planted your peas in pots in the greenhouse,
plant out directly now |

GLADIOLI |
Plant out your Gladioli any time from now to June. Gladis like sharp
grit so if your soil is heavy put some grit in the hole before planting
your bulbs. Plant about 10cm deep and 10-15cm apart. |

If you have peaches or nectarines in the greenhouse then use a soft
brush to pollinate them |

GOOSEBERRIES |
Frost damage can be prevented to your early flowers by covering with
fleece or net |

RHUBARB |
Cover your Rhubarb with a forcing jar or bucket now but do check to
ensure the stalks are not getting too long |

STRAWBERRIES |
Cover strawberries required for early fruits with cloches to encourage
them to flower |

Propergate
sage, rosemary and lavender and bry any side shoots that have roots. |

and apply organic fertiliser where necessary. |

clumps of thyme, winter savory, oregano and marjoram. |
| HOUSEPLANTS

Start feeding your houseplants now, also give the leaves a treat by
putting the plant in a shower of rain, either outside or in the bath.
Alternatively wash the leaves by hand with cotton wool dipped in diluted
milk to make the leaves shiny. Repot to one size larger pot or top
dress with some new houseplant compost. |

Check
your seed packets to see what can be sown, throw out any very out
of date seeds or sow them and see what happens, dont forget to name
them! |

Conifers
and hedging will take very well if planted out now. Shake off any
snow. |

ONIONS |
When you plant your onions out in rows now make sure to leave space
for weeding |

POTATOES |
Plant out your early potatoes at the beginning of April and your main
crop towards the end |

SWEET CORN |
As the weather warms during April sow your sweetcorn in pots ready
to plant out in early summer |

GENERAL |
Plant leeks. parsnips. spinach. peas. mange-tout. lettuce. beetroot.
broad beans. radish. turnips outside but for added protection under
cloches. |

GARLIC |
Place the individual cloves about 5cm deep and 15cm apart |

SHALLOTS |
It is not too late to plant shallots, they need an open and sunny
part of the garden and plant them with the tips showing through the
soil |

ASPARAGUS |
Plant new crowns into a well prepared trench which has a ridge. Spread
the roots over the ridge, cover with soil until the crowns are 5cm
under. |
